Announcing our 2023 Unrehearsed Artist Residency Cohort!
After receiving so many applications from extremely talented artists around the world and spending time carefully deliberating, we are so thrilled to be introducing the 8 artists that make up our 2023 Unrehearsed Artist Residency Cohort! Each one of these artists bring a unique and critical perspective to this field and we cannot wait to be in the process of art making with them. The Unrehearsed Artist Residency Program aims to fund and support the creation of new dance work by artists who are often not represented in conventionally-funded spaces in the South Asian Dance industry. The program keeps care & developmental support front and center while working toward sharing a Final Work in Progress.
This virtual residency program provides awards of up to $1500 to 5 artists to center the strengths, experiences, and artistry from 1) historic contributors to Indian art who are often not credited for their work, 2) South Asian identifying folks practicing and creating in artforms that lack structural and organizational support in the South Asian performing arts industry or 3) have a history of using art to elevate awareness of urgent social justice issues.
